UC San Diego · La Jolla

Vintra opens at UC San Diego first.

Around thirty-five thousand undergrads, eight residential colleges, and a quarter system that empties the dorms three times a year. UCSD is the first community Vintra opens, on September 1, 2026. Sellers keep 100% of what they list.

01

The quarter system is the whole reason

UCSD runs on ten-week quarters, not semesters. Fall starts late September, winter picks up in early January, spring runs from late March into June. That’s three separate turnovers a year where people move rooms, swap wardrobes, decide the jacket they bought in October isn’t it, and hit June with a pile they don’t want to drag home. Semester schools get two of those moments. UCSD gets three, and the June one lands with almost everyone leaving at once.

02

Eight colleges, eight different closets

Revelle, Muir, Marshall, Warren, Roosevelt, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth each have their own housing, their own quad, their own feel. Anyone who’s been here knows the style reads differently walking through Muir than through Sixth. A feed built on people rather than categories is the only kind that picks that up — you follow the closets that look like your corner of campus, not a filtered grid of “women’s outerwear, size M.”

03

Everything ships, even to Warren

There’s no local pickup at launch — no meeting behind Geisel, no “I’ll leave it at the front desk.” Every order gets a prepaid label and a tracking number, whether it’s crossing campus or going to Sacramento. It costs a few days, and it buys a record that support can actually read when something goes wrong. How shipping works ↗

04

You keep the whole $45

Vintra takes 0% from sellers — no listing fee, no commission, nothing. List a hoodie at $45 and $45 is what you get. On a marketplace charging 20%, that same sale pays out $36. Payment processing goes on the buyer’s total instead of yours, which is what makes that literally true. See the full fee comparison ↗

Around campus

San Diego already thrifts. It just does it slowly.

Secondhand in San Diego means a car, a Saturday, and a loop through North Park or Ocean Beach — genuinely good hunting, and completely impractical on a Tuesday between a 2pm and a 4pm. Meanwhile the best-dressed person in your section is quietly cleaning out a closet three buildings away and posting it to a group chat forty people can see.

That’s the gap. Not a lack of good clothes near UCSD — there are thousands, sitting in Revelle singles and La Jolla apartments and Mira Mesa parking-lot trunks. What’s missing is a way to see them that isn’t an Instagram story you scrolled past at 1am, and isn’t a national grid where the seller is a stranger in Ohio and the sizing is a guess.

Vintra puts those closets in one feed you can follow. You see when someone posts, you ask about the measurements, you make an offer, and it ships with tracking. The person on the other end is someone whose taste you decided you liked — which is a very different thing from an algorithm deciding for you.

Buying

Open to anyone, student or not

You do not need a UCSD email, or any .edu address, to buy on Vintra. You need to be 18 or over. “UC San Diego” describes where the sellers are concentrated first — if you live in Pacific Beach, University City, or Ohio, you can still shop it. How buying works ↗

Selling

Selling is by application

Sellers apply, and Vintra reviews for fit before the first sale, plus Stripe identity and payout onboarding. It’s a small gate, and it exists because a resale community is only as good as the people listing in it. Spots open around September 1, 2026. Apply to sell ↗
